Serie A Gattuso denounced the disrespectful gesture
AC Milan took a firm step towards Champions League qualification with a 1-0 victory over Lazio on Saturday evening, yet the match ended in an unsavoury fashion which led to Tiemoue Bakayoko exchanging shirts with Francesco Acerbi, only to present the Italian defender’s shirt to the Rossoneri‘s supporters.
It was an act of brazen disrespect which a number of football luminaries have already denounced, most notably his own coach, Gennaro Gattuso.
This followed a week of snipes between players of either club in the media, however tensions have now been stoked to an unmanageable level.
Mateo Musacchio and Patrick Cutrone were equally as annoyed with their teammates gesture, with the former even ripping the Lazio shirt from the former Monaco star’s grasp.
Acerbi was left particularly stung by the incident, especially after he perceived his initial gesture to be one of goodwill.
“I exchanged shirts to close the issue,” Acerbi posted on social media.
“Encouraging and inciting hatred is not sport, but a sign of weakness.”

Meanwhile, Bakayoko was quickly forced to make a public apology to the former Milan defender.
“I didn’t mean to disrespect him, it was just a joke,” Bakayoko admitted.
“I apologise to my friend Acerbi if he felt offended.”
